COMMITMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
PLAYER COMMITMENTS
Players will need to make themselves available during the All Star season. Each manager is responsible for scheduling practices and making sure players are ready to compete. The schedule is dictated by tournament officials and families should be aware that league officials and managers will have no control over game times or situations affecting game times. Families are encouraged to be fully committed to All Stars. Supporting your player and teammates will help build a stronger team and build lasting memories for your player. All Stars is an opportunity to represent your league and can mean a substantial time commitment during the summer for practices and games. Teams begin practicing at the end of the regular spring season and can practice up to 6 days a week preparing for tournament play. The tournament is double elimination, so teams may play up 6 or 7 games over the 2 weeks of the District tournament. This could mean back-to-back nights or double headers due to weather. When teams win the District Tournament, they will continue to the State Tournament. Teams going to State will continue to commit to practice and putting in their best effort. State tournaments are hosted by leagues throughout the state and can require travel in Arizona. For divisions that can continue past state, this can mean traveling throughout the country. Families may be asked to help during All Star if needed.
FINANCIAL COMMITMENTS
All Stars play is not included in the regular season registration and an additional fee that to be collected to help cover uniform and tournament fees. Players will be expected to purchase new baseball pants, socks and belt to meet the uniform guidelines determined by the league. The district tournaments are held locally in Tucson, but the State Tournaments are located throughout Arizona. Travel, meals and lodging are not covered by the league and may solely be the responsibility of the families. Marana Little League understands the additional financial commitment that comes with playing All Stars. MLL will always do our best to put the players first and work with families that may be in need of assistance on a case by case basis.
MANDATORY PLAY
Tournaments will use continuous batting order for their lineup. All players listed on the affidavit and present at the start of the game will be included in the lineup. Players will be required to bat in the order on the line up. Players can be substituted defensively at manager’s discretion. There are no mandatory DEFENSIVE play requirements! Baseball: Tournament Rule 4 (c) provisions apply: Pitchers once removed from the mound, may not return as pitchers. Softball: Tournament Rule 4 (c) provisions apply: A pitcher remaining in the game, but moving to a different position, can return as a pitcher anytime in the remainder of the game, but only once in the same inning as she was removed. Not following mandatory play requirements can lead to penalties. Players may only be given the chance for 1 at bat. All Stars is competitive and the goal is to win the tournament. While the impact of each player may not be seen on the field each game, the team dynamic is built off the field. The work done at practices and developing players will last for years to come and help our players become knowledgeable at the sport as well as become leaders for our community.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
(Subject to Change Without Notice!) Each year, different Leagues throughout Arizona volunteer to host District and State Tournaments on their home fields. The host League's commitment includes many volunteer hours to organize and run the tournaments, as well as prepare our players for the tournament. Little League is run solely by volunteers and it can take time to organize and prepare all the leagues. Tournament schedules are often confirmed a week before games start. District All Stars is anticipated to be played at the end of June and teams moving on to state can play in July. Teams with the opportunity to move on to Regionals and the World Series could play into August.
Potential All Star Teams
All Star teams are determined by age and not by division played during the regular season. If a player is eligible for a team based on age, they may work with their VP and Player Agent on determining what team would be the best fit for them.
