EVAL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)

What is the purpose of player evaluations?
Player evaluations are an important part of the team formation/draft process to help us achieve Marana Little League’s objectives of placing players at the appropriate skill level (division), achieving team parity, and compliance with Little League International rules.  It also helps create a memorable, fun, and fair playing environment for all players. Evaluations are not a tryout--all registered players are placed on a team regardless of skill level.

What will evaluations entail?
The evaluations will cover fielding, throwing, catching (fly balls), hitting, running , pitching and optionally catching. The evaluations are organized by the league player agent and run by the Marana Little League board. Coaches who have volunteered to coach a minors or majors division and who have completed a background check prior to evaluations will be invited to come and help evaluate players.

My child is 7 years old, why do they have to do evaluations?
All players registered for Minors or Majors are required to participate in evaluations. Thus if a little league age 7 year old has been registered for one of those divisions, they are required to attend an evaluation session.

My child is registered for Coach Pitch why do they have to do evaluations?
All league age 8 year old's who have been registered for Coach Pitch are also required to participate in evaluations. This is one way the board seeks to ensure the integrity of the divisions, and ensure the safety of younger players (5,6,7 years old) in the coach pitch division. If players are registered in Coach Pitch and are younger than league age 8 years old, they are NOT required to attend evaluations.

What dates will evaluations be held?
For the 2025 season, baseball evaluations will be held on Monday, February 10th, and Tuesday, February 11th. Softball evaluations will be held on Wednesday, February 12th and Thursday February 13th.

Where will evaluations be held?
Baseball - Ora Mae Harn Park, Field #2
Softball - Ora Mae Harn Park, Field #4

What times will evaluations be held?
Evaluations will start at 5:30PM, Monday through Thursday. They will last roughly one hour. The specific time that your player is scheduled to attend is specified in the email and accompanying pdf document provided by the league player agent.

My child's age is incorrect in the PDF Evaluation list.
Ages shown correspond to little league player age, which is sometimes different than the actual age of the player. Little league age charts are provided here for Baseball and Softball.

How long will evaluations take?
Players should arrive 20-30 minutes early to check-in, and warm-up, prior to being called into their scheduled evaluation time.  Evaluations will take roughly one hour, and players can leave immediately after completing the last evaluation station.

What should players bring?
Players should bring water, glove, bat, baseball hat, batting helmet, and cleats, and wear baseball pants. Players will have an option to be evaluated as a catcher and can bring gear if they like.  Catchers gear will also be provided by the league by those who don't have it.

What should I do when I arrive at Ora Mae?

There will be a registration table near the snack bar. You will need to check-in at the registration table, where each player will be provided a bib corresponding to their evaluation number, and safety pins to attach the bib to the players shirt. Players can then proceed to field #1 to warm-up prior to being called over for evaluations.

What if my child cannot make the scheduled evaluation time?
Email the player agent (baseball - [email protected], softball - [email protected]) and we will do our best to find another time that works.

I volunteered to be a Head Coach and my child will be playing on my team. Does my child still need to do evaluations?
Yes.
