2026 Spring Softball

General Information: 
Registration deadline is February 28, 2026.  Practices are expected to start on April 1, 2026. Games are expected to start on April 15, 2026 and the season will end on or around June 9, 2026. 
 
 All Divisions: Full uniform will be provided- Shirt, pants socks. Players are expected to have their own glove and appropriate footwear. It is recommended that players have their own batting helmet and bat; however, the league will have all necessary equipment available. For any division, play will be dictated by the number of registrations that we receive. If we have a lack of players in any division, the division will be cancelled and a refund will be made. Players may be given the option to participate in an alternative division. Considerations may be made for clinic style play. It is our goal to have each player play in a division that is appropriate for their skill and age level. Placement in a division is made by Board Members of Portland Little League. If you do not agree with the placement, you may request a transfer to an alternate division. If an agreement cannot be met, you may request a refund no later than the first day of practices.  
 
 Minors and Majors Divisions: Majors and Minors players can expect to practice up to 3 times per week before games start. During the season, players are expected to play 2 games per week and practice 1 day per week.  Games- games are played during the week and weekends and are about 2 hours long. Players will be expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time. Weekday games typically start at 5:30. Weekend days are typically played on Saturdays at various times. Practices can be expected to start at 5:30 and go up to 2 hours. Travel to play against other teams may be necessary. In prior seasons, we’ve played towns such as Middletown, East Hampton, East Haddam, Essex and Deep River. Travel locations will differ, depending on the programs put together by all 14 towns in our Little League District.    
 
Coach Pitch Division: Coach Pitch can expect 1 game and 1 practice per week. Weekend games are typically played on Saturday. Games- After opening day, games are played during the week and weekends and are about 2 hours long. Players will be expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time. Weekday games typically start at 5:30 Practices- practices can expect to start at 5:30 and go up to 2 hours.

Juniors Division- If there is enough interest, we will have a juniors team. Players should expect to practice one or two nights per week and play one or two games per week. If there are not enough players, we will issue a refund of the registration cost.

Games are played during the week and are about 2 hours long. Players will be expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time. Weekday games typically start at 5:30. Practices can expect to start at 5:30 and go up to 2 hours, some coaches may elect Saturday practices. Sunday is typically an off day.  Travel to play against other teams may be necessary. In prior seasons, we’ve played towns such as Middletown, East Hampton, East Haddam, Essex and Deep River. Travel locations will differ, depending on the programs put together by all 14 towns in our Little League District.  Most players in the Minors division are league ages 9 and 10 and most players in the Majors division are league age 11 and 12. All players that participate in this division will need to attend our player evaluations, date and time are TBD.
 
Rookie Ball Division: Most players in this division typically have a combination of 3 years of combined tball and/or coach pitch experience and are ages 7 through 8 years old (League Age). Rookie Ball players will see a hybrid of player pitch and coach pitch during games. These games are usually played on Saturdays and practices are held one day during the week. Travel to other towns will be required for players in this division.

Coach Pitch Division: Most players are between the ages 6-8 Players hit live pitching off of a coach. For most players that have played 2 years of Tball, then this is the next level of play for you. Players will learn where all the positions on the field and will continue to work on pitching and catching.  Games are played against other Portland Little League coach pitch teams. When you play coach pitch, you can expect to play 2 days a week. 1 weekday and on Saturday. Sunday is typically an off day.

T-Ball Division: Most players are between ages 4-6 This division is for our youngest players. In this division, players hit off of a tee then move on to coach pitch as the season progresses. Players will learn basic skills, hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and baserunning. Games are played against other Portland Little League Tball teams. When you play in tball you can expect to play 2 days a week. 1 weekday and on Saturday. Sunday is typically an off day.

Juniors Division: Players in this division will be between the ages of 13 and 16. These players will play on the big diamond at Rose Hill and travel to other locations. Every effort will be made to work around the middle school baseball schedules. Space may be limited for this division.
