Currently, Portland Little League has multiple divisions for baseball and softball.  Our divisions are designed to provide the best experience for all players so that they can play at a level that is just right for each player.  Below is a brief description of each division that we offer. 

TBALL-   Most players are between ages 4-6 This division is for our youngest players.  In this division, players hit off of a tee then move on to coach pitch as the season progresses.  Players will learn basis skills, hitting, throwing, catching, fielding and baserunning.  Games are played against other Portland Little League Tball teams. When you play in tball you can expect to play 2 days a week.  1 weekday and on Saturday. Sunday is typically an off day

The following divisions are for baseball and softball:

Coach Pitch - Most players are between the ages 6-8 Players hit live pitching off of a coach.  Players will learn where all the  positions on the field and will continue to work on pitching and catching .    Games are played against other Portland Little League coach pitch teams. When you play coach pitch, you can expect to play 2 days a week.  1 weekday and on Saturday. Sunday is typically an off day

Minors- Most players are between the ages 8-10Minors players hit live pitching from kids pitching against them.  Minors games typically have rules for runs per inning to keep the games moving.  Umpires are used to make calls for the games.  Commitment is 3-4 days per week.  You can expect to practice 3 days a week pre-season and play 2-3 games per week plus a practice during the season. Games are played during the week and are about 2 hours long.  Players will be expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time. Weekday games typically start at 5:30 Practices- practices can expected to start at 5:30 and go up to 2 hours, some coaches may elect Saturday practices prior to games. Sunday is typically an off day.   Travel to play against other teams may be necessary. In prior seasons, we’ve played towns such as Middletown, East Hampton, East Haddam, Essex and Deep River.  Travel locations will differ, depending on the fall programs put together by all 14 towns in our Little League District.     

Majors- Majors Players hit live pitching from kids pitching against them.  Majors players are usually 11 or 12 years of age (there will be an occasional 10 year old).  This is big kid baseball!!  Commitment is 3-4 days per week.  You can expect to practice 3 days a week pre-season and play 2-3 games per week plus a practice during the season. Games are played during the week and are about 2 hours long.  Players will be expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game time. For all divisions, Members of Portland Little League are responsible for placing players in a division that they can safely play .  

























Portland Little League meets monthly at the Portland Senior Center. (lower level) Meetings begin at 7pm unless noted and are open for all to attend. New volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Hope to see you at a future meeting.
