Parade Information

Hello SC LIONS FAMILIES,

This is notice that the SCASD Homecoming Parade is next Thursday, October 10th at 6 PM. For our new parents, each year our Football Players and Cheer Leaders participate in this fun-filled event. It is a great team spirit event and a way to expose the community to the great work the SC Lions Youth Football and Cheer Program and families is doing for the community.

We are excited to have all the kids participate but we cannot do it without you:

Candy Donation:

All players and cheerleaders should bring individually wrapped candy already removed from the sales package and in a doubled up "WALMART PLASTIC BAG" for the Midget and Pee Wee football players to hand out during the parade. Parents, you will give the bag of candy to Parade volunteers in the parking lot as you complete the sign-in sheet for your footballer or cheerleader.

Drop Off:

The drop off place for all participants is the Westerly Parkway Shopping Center Parking Lot (vacant lot between Rite Aid and the Hundred Degree Hot Pot), between 5:30 PM and 5:45 PM. You need to look for Football Coaches or Team Parents who will have sign in sheets for Flag, PeeWee and Midget football players and a Cheerleading coach who will have the sign in sheet for All Cheerleaders. You must sign in your child at this time and leave your cell phone number in case of an emergency.  This form will also serve as the permission slip for those parents who did not grant permission to participate in the parade during football registration.  PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILD OFF WITHOUT SIGNING THEM IN.

Route:
The parade begins at the High School at 6pm. The parade route is different this year.  It will leave Westerly Parkway going the opposite direction as previous years, complete a loop around Sparks and West Hamilton Avenue and then return to the high school via Westerly Parkway.

Float:
Due to SAFETY reasons and the length of the parade, all FLAG FOOTBALL PLAYERS & CHEERLEADERS MUST ride on the float during the parade and are not permitted to throw candy from the float.  Anyone on a FLAG TEAM must be accompanied by one parent or guardian who will walk along side the truck.  Only the flag players, cheerleaders and coaches will be permitted on the float.  Because of the large number of flag participants, we plan to have 2 truck floats in the parade this year.

Pick-Up Post Parade:
Once the Float stops, it is very chaotic as the kids are made to leave the floats and depart as fast as possible so the other parade vehicles can leave the area. Because of the new parade route, we are still not fully aware of where the parade will disband.  We are told it will be at the High School, but not entirely sure where.  We will walk the kids to the front of the Weis Store.   At the end of the parade, all Parents/Guardians must make contact with a Football Coach/TEAM Parent or Cheer Coach to check out their Football player or Cheerleader, respectively.  This is a necessary process to ensure the SAFETY of everyone and so we know who has or has not been picked up yet.

If you are unable to locate us after the parade, please call Coach Jay at 935-1092 to make plans for pick-up.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE APPROPRIATE COACH OR TEAM PARENT

Flag/PeeWee/Midget Football Players:

Please be dressed appropriately for the weather in your Maroon team jersey, shorts/or pants, and sneakers.

All PeeWee and Midget football players should bring either a cinch bag or strong grocery bag to carry the candy in that they will be handing out along the parade route.

Flag/PeeWee/Midget Cheerleaders:

You will receive an e-mail by the middle of next week with the uniform you will wear based on the anticipated weather.  Flag cheerleaders will ride on the float.  Pee Wee and Midget Cheerleaders will march in the parade and perform cheers.

Parent Volunteers:  If you would like to volunteer to walk in the parade and are not already doing so as a flag parent, please contact Amanda Baldinucci at [email protected]

We appreciate your patience as we all stumble through the changes this year.  This really does turn out to be a super fun night for the kids.
