2025 Flag Football Changes

As stated previously, while you read through these updates, please keep in mind these changes were made with the intent of keeping the end-product of what the SC Lions organization has provided over the last 20 years the same.  Additionally, we are being proactive with these changes to adapt to the ever-changing world of youth sports with respect to lower volunteerism and the workload required to pull off all of the offerings of the SC Lions organization each year.

As such, the following changes to the SC Lions Flag Program are being implemented for the 2025 FALL Season.

  1. The Flag program will now be a travel league due to the continued difficulty in managing the size of the in-house league with the right level of volunteerism AND due to the new role I will be taking as Executive Director where I won't have the needed time to help manage the Flag program as well.  The SC Lions will plan to field up to two (2) League Flag teams that will play against other Flag teams of the CPYFCL.  Ages for this league are 5-7, with the league age determined as of 7/31/2025.  We will continue working out the specifics for the Flag travel teams, but here is what we do know as of now;
  1. We will accept coed registrations starting on May 5, 2025, but all Flag registrants will go onto a WAIT LIST so we can review and give priority to those Flag football players that are siblings of tackle age Cheer and/or Football participants.  This is so families with multiple children in the SC Lions program can be at the same field as much as possible each Sunday.
  2. As part of the registration process, a question will be asked if the respective Flag footballer has an older sibling in the program, and if so, we will start to move Flag football players from the WAIT LIST to a Flag Team.
  3. Once all Flag football siblings have been accommodated, we will fill remaining slots with those who are still interested in travelling outside of State College for Flag football on Sundays.  Those participants will be added to the roster(s) from the WAIT LIST based on the earliest date and time they registered for the Flag program until we fill up to a total of 24 Roster spots.  Once we have 24 roster slots filed, all those still remaining on the WAITLIST will be notified.
  4. Again, as part of the registration process, a second question will need to be answered stating that even though the respective registrant doesn’t have an older sibling in the program, they are still interested in travelling to away games on Sundays to play other CPYFCL Flag football teams.
  5. To make the registration process more efficient and easier for all involved, if you know that you don’t have a child in the tackle division cheer or football and/or you don’t want to travel outside State College area for league flag games, please do not sign up for SC LIONS flag football but see below for other area Flag football alternatives.
  6. QUESTION: What do I do if my Flag player played with the SC Lions last year, but for the reasons listed above, they can’t or don't want to play for the SC Lions this season?
    1. FALL LEAGUE: One option exists with the CRPR (Centre Region Parks and Rec) Youth Flag football league and you can find information at the following link Flag Football | Centre Region Parks & Recreation.  Note that registration opens on May 12, 2025.
    2. SUMMER LEAGUE: The other option is at the NITTANY VALLEY SPORTS CENTRE (The CENTRE) and you can find information at this link Youth Flag Football Leagues | The Centre.  Note that registration is open now because the league starts May 28, 2025 and the season concludes in mid-July with a Championship week, so it does not run during the FALL.

    I thank you all for your patience as we work through this new format for the SC Lions Flag program in 2025 and if you have any questions that I did not address, which I am sure there will be, please reply to this email and I will do my best to answer your question(s) and share as a FAQ document with the rest of the parents.

    As always.....GO LIONS!!!
