Getting Involved

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer or coach. It is an exciting league focused on teaching life lessons and teamwork through baseball and softball. 

Thank you to the over 70 Coaches who volunteered last year. If you are you interested in getting involved or want to return to coach again in 2022, please complete forms above or reach out to our Coaching Coordinator, Jen DeFilippo at [email protected] or our President, Darren Giordano at [email protected]m


Please note all requests for volunteer positions are subject to review by the league president and require a background check before approval.  No one is guaranteed a position and no one has tenure from a previous season.

Each of the following Board members is always looking for committed parents to help guide the programs. For 2022, we hope to have volunteers to not only coach but to help foster the specifics of each program.

ROLE OF A TEAM PARENT

The Team Parent is one of the most important jobs in Little League Baseball. Little League is a parent volunteer based organization. A good Team Parent helps make things much easier on the Manager/Coaches - and the team typically runs more smoothly, with better team spirit and better team results. The Team Parent holds a position of trust and responsibility in the Program, expected to work with the Coaches, children and other parents to provide the best Little League experience possible. It is a great bonding experience with your child and allows you to be involved in many aspects of the team your child is playing on.

Responsibilities

- Have patience and the capacity to work with children

- Foster a positive team culture across the children, parents and coaches

- Ensure and understand Caldwell Little League Code and Conduct, Rules and Policies

- Put players’ best interest first in all program aspects including over wins and losses

- Able to support the Head Coach and the team players

- Able to be a voice of the parents on the team

Requirements

1.    Manage off-the-field  aspects of a team’s Little League experience as defined by the Head Coach and Little League Board  for the team

2.    Team administrative manners including: 

  • Organizing picture day and passing out pictures
  • Organizing team parties
  • Organizing non-game events like the parade and opening day
  • Organize parents to ensure that dugout, sidelines and bleachers are clean and litter-free for the next game
  • Scorekeeper

3.    Engagement with the League Board on team needs, issues, and status

4.   Team communication to all players and families in coordination with the Coaches

ROLE OF A HEAD COACH

A Head Coach holds a position of trust and responsibility as a leader of a team

Responsibilities

- Have patience and the capacity to work with children, using sports to teach life lessons and teamwork

- Ensure and understand Caldwell Little League Code and Conduct, Rules and Policies

- Put players’ best interest first in all program aspects including over wins and losses

Requirements

1.     Manage all aspects of a team’s roster, practices and skill development

2.     Game management inclusive of playing time, pitch count, batting order and player positions

3.     Engagement with the League Board on team needs, issues, and status

4.     Team communication to all players and families

Role of an Assistant Coach

An Assistant Coaches holds a position of trust and responsibility in the Program, expected to work with the Head Coach to provide the best Little League experience possible.  

Responsibilities

- Have patience and the capacity to work with children, using sports to teach life lessons and teamwork

- Ensure and understand Caldwell Little League Code and Conduct, Rules and Policies

- Put players’ best interest first in all program aspects including over wins and losses

- Able to support the Head Coach and the team players

Requirements

1.    Manage aspects of a team’s Little League experience as defined by the Head Coach

2.    Team Administrative manners

3.    Player Skills development training (ground balls, fly balls, batting practice)

4.    Game management aspects including player direction and base running

5.    Engagement with the League Board on team needs, issues, and status

6.    Team communication to all players and families

ROLE OF FIELD PREP

The fields play a critical role for practices and games. Field prep is a needed and crucial part of every game event in Caldwell Little League.  We welcome volunteers to do some basic field prep to ensure good conditions  for our players.  This is not heavy landscaping or building fields. There are already responsible parties for lawn care and the big items of field care. This role required volunteers who can spend some time before games tidying up to ensure the playing field conditions are safe and ready for game time. This role is perfect role for someone not familiar with baseball rules and specifics but still wants to help. It is a critical role but more of a flexible commitment that Coaching or being a Team Parent. Field prep is done across a large group of volunteers so you will have help. It can also foster friendships with other parent volunteers as you spend time outdoors performing some basic field preparation together.

Responsibilities

- Have patience and the capacity to work with other volunteers to do some minimal field preparations

- Ensure and understand Caldwell Little League Code and Conduct, Rules and Policies

- Check field conditions are safe and ready for game time


Requirements

1.    Commit a flexible block of  time between or before games to drag the base paths and align the bases

2.    Ensure any assigned field prep is completed inclusive of dugouts

3.    Offer assistance for specific field prep due to weather conditions like rain.
