The Skip Palmer Dugout Project is a fund dedicated to the life of Skip Palmer, who passed away during the summer of 2017.  Skip was extremely active in the Hampton athletic community: he has five grandchildren that play baseball/softball for the Hampton Athletic Association, he was the varsity baseball coach from 1980s-to the late 1990's here in Hampton Township, was a former Hampton Athletic Association board member, and he spent the last 12 years coaching Shaler Area Varsity Softball.

In his memory, the Hampton Athletic Association (HAA) in partnership with Skip Palmer's family will be constructing six new dugouts on McCully Fields in Hampton Township.  Though new dugouts were on the "wish list" for HAA for some time, the entire project was jump-started by Skip's family, the Palmers and Hannas, raising money through events and private donations.  They even were able to secure a large donation from the Pittsburgh Pirates Charities, their largest donation given of the 2017-2018 year.

The dugout project will cover not only new dugouts, but also the extension of the backstop area on two of the fields, replacement of fencing where needed, reconfiguration of spectator seating for better views of the game, laser leveling of all three fields, and scoreboard replacement on all three fields. These improvements will be started upon the completion of the spring baseball and softball seasons (early July 2018) and is expected to be finished in time for the 2018 fall season.

We appreciate all of the hard work from the Palmers, the Hannas, and the hundreds and thousands of community members who have already donated time and money to this cause.  We know Skip is smiling down on us as we have been working towards our goal!
