Youth Umpire Program
Purpose: To provide young adult league members additional opportunity for growth as individuals beyond the role of competitor, and to promote both continued service to the league and volunteerism.
Eligibility: Open to current and former Southington North Little League players league-age 13 and older. Due to high interest levels, a limited number of games, and returning participants, selection is not guaranteed. Program participation and game assignments are dependent on seniority, demonstrated ability, aptitude and availability.
Description:
Major League Level:
- Must be league age 14 or older and attending High School
- Must have previous Major League umpiring experience, or at least one year of experience umpiring in the Minors League. Previous Minors League experience is not a guarantee of Major League assignments this year.
- Must demonstrate maturity, poise and a positive attitude
- Must complete Major League umpire training
- Base assignments available
Minors Level:
- Must be league age 13 or older
- Must demonstrate maturity, poise and a positive attitude
- Must complete Minors League umpire training
- Plate and Base assignments available
Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate maturity, poise and a positive attitude
- Ability to control all on-field situations
- Ability to communicate with players and coaches in the role of presiding official
- Attend all scheduled training sessions
- Must be able to accept and fulfill assignments as scheduled. There is limited ability to accommodate competing schedules (i.e. school teams, travel teams, etc).
