Week 3: JOY
Read Galatians 5:22-23.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Can you remember the Fruit of the Spirit we learned last week? (Love)
Very good! Today, we are going to talk about Joy. Do you know what joy is?
What are some things that make you happy?
Show me a happy face.
That’s great! Did you know that joy is even better than being happy?
Joy is happiness way down deep in your heart.
What are some things that bring you “JOY”? (that are different than making you happy)
When you think about the word JOY – what comes to mind?
Can you have JOY and not be “happy”?
Having JOY is like having a song in your heart.
What’s your favorite song?
Well, JOY is having a song for God in your heart all the time!
Can you have JOY in your heart even if you lose a basketball game? Or miss all of your lay-ups? What if your brother or sister wins their basketball game and you don’t, can you have JOY for them in your heart, even if you’re a little sad your team didn’t win the game?
Let’s pray: Dear God,
I am so thankful you put a song in my heart and make me joyful. Help me to show that joy to others, even if I’m not feeling happy all the time.
Amen.
