A Parent’s Guide to T-Ball
Welcome to Streamwood Little League T-Ball! We’re excited to introduce your child to baseball in a fun, positive, and supportive environment. T-Ball is often a player’s first experience with organized sports, and our goal is to make it memorable for all the right reasons.
This guide explains what T-Ball at Streamwood Little League is all about, what parents can expect, and how we work together to help every child grow.
Our T-Ball Philosophy
T-Ball is about learning, confidence, and fun. At this level, success is measured by smiles, effort, and improvement—not the score.
Our focus is on:
Introducing the basic fundamentals of baseball
Teaching teamwork and sportsmanship
Building confidence and independence
Creating a love for the game
Every child develops at their own pace, and T-Ball is designed to meet players exactly where they are.
What T-Ball Looks Like
T-Ball games may look different from traditional baseball—and that’s okay!
You’ll see:
Batters hitting off a tee
Coaches on the field helping guide players
All players batting and playing defense
Lots of instruction, encouragement, and repetition
Occasional chaos, laughter, and learning moments
Mistakes are expected and encouraged. They are a natural part of learning the game.
Player Development & Skill Building
Throughout the season, players will learn:
How to hold and swing a bat
How to throw and catch safely
Basic base running and field awareness
The names and responsibilities of positions
Listening skills and following simple instructions
As players progress, coaches may gently introduce new challenges—such as coach pitch—to support continued growth while keeping the experience positive and age-appropriate.
The Role of Coaches
T-Ball coaches are volunteers who care deeply about creating a positive first sports experience. Coaches:
Are background-checked and league-approved
Focus on instruction and safety
Rotate players through positions
Ensure equal playing time
Use positive reinforcement and encouragement
Coaches are teachers at this level, first and foremost.
The Role of Parents
Parents are a huge part of a successful T-Ball season. We ask parents to:
Cheer for effort, not results
Celebrate all players on the field
Allow coaches to coach and players to learn
Be patient as children build skills
Your child will look to you for cues—your positivity and support make a big difference.
