2021 Season Update

Dear RDLL Community:

Happy New Year! Welcome to what we are all hoping will be a fun season of Rainier District Little League Baseball and Softball.  I apologize in advance for the length of this email, but there is a lot of important information that we need to communicate.  This email will contain information on the upcoming season, registrations, and a couple critical needs for RDLL.  If you have any questions or can offer a helping hand, please reach out to [email protected]

New Board and Help Needed!
My name is John Wright, and I am happy to return as the RDLL League President this season.  I am thrilled to have largely the same board back this year since last season did not go how anyone had envisioned.  There are few new faces and a couple positions that are still open.  You can see our new board by going here.  We are still looking for a Board Secretary and someone to manage our Website.  If you are interested in either of these positions, please let us know.

There are two new areas of help that we need this year in light of the current pandemic.  First, we are looking for a couple of people with experience in the medical/health field to advise the board throughout the season on any COVID-related issues that arise.   Second, we are looking for a software developer to build a COVID symptom checker app.  These are both critical areas that we will need to get in place to have a successful and safe season.  If you are interested in any of these roles or helping out in anyway, please reach out to [email protected]

2021 Season
We are hoping and planning to have a 2021 season this year.  Putting on a season that is, first and foremost, safe and fun has always been our mission.  Focusing on the safety of all of our players, coaches, umpires, and volunteers will be even more important in light of the pandemic.  While we will strive to have things be as "normal" as possible, the reality is that this season will be different from any other season we have ever had.

The board is currently working on a plan that will allow us to safely put on a season this year.  We are reviewing guidelines from local, state, and federal health officials and Little League.  We will share more details as we have them, but as you can imagine there are many scenarios that we are still working out.  Additionally, the precautions that we take may change throughout the season as COVID conditions change in our community.  Please know that we are working hard on this and we appreciate your patience while we work through the details.

As of right now, we will require all players and coaches to wear masks and we will have mandatory requirements around symptom/health checks and sanitization.  Additionally, we may be required to follow guidelines from the city, county, and/or state that will affect how parents, fans, and spectators can participate.  Again, we are working through the details and will be sharing more information in the coming weeks and throughout the season.

Currently, we are targeting the season to start in early April.  This is later than we normally start, but after consulting with medical experts and other local leagues, we believe that this is the safest approach to the season.  Little League has announced that they are planning on a regular All-Star Tournament season, so this means that our kid pitch seasons would need to wrap up by the end of June.  Our younger divisions (Tball, TNToss, Coach Pitch) could potentially run into July.  Obviously, these dates are subject to change pending COVID data in our community.

Registrations
We plan to have registrations open by the end of January.  This is later than we normally open registrations, but we are finalizing some changes related to COVID-19.  Please stay tuned for upcoming registration e-mails.  We hope you will be able to join us for the 2021 season!

I am cautiously optimistic that we will be able to put on a season this year.  With everything that we have all been through in the past year, I miss playing ball more than ever and hope that we are beginning to see a light at the end of this long tunnel.

Thanks,
John Wright
RDLL President
