LYA Girls Lacrosse – Spring 2026
Welcome to LYA Girls’ Lacrosse!

This program is intended to support participation in lacrosse from Elementary to Middle School age youth in the Downingtown Area School Districts.  It is for residents of the Downingtown Area in grades K through 8 and is affiliated with the Philadelphia Area Girls’ Lacrosse Association (PAGLA).

Our mission is to promote the game of lacrosse and to provide a safe and fun opportunity while emphasizing the importance of good sportsmanship, fitness and teamwork.   Our goal is to teach players fundamental skills for success on and off the field.

LYA is a volunteer organization.  It cannot be said often enough that the success of the program depends on the dedication of it's volunteers.  We are looking for coaches for ALL age groups!  Practice plans and additional support are available.  NO experience necessary.  All we ask is that you donate your time and provide a fun, learning experience for the girls.

Kindergarten:
Girls will play in a co-ed clinic on Saturday mornings.  This CO-ED program with kids roughly ages 4-6 years old. We want the girls to build their basic skills and the love of the game in a fun and positive environment.   At the end of the season, we will have a small scrimmage so the girls have a chance to practice playing using the skills they learned.

PAGLA:
LYA’s 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th divisions are part of the Pennsylvania Girls Lacrosse Association (PAGLA).  PAGLA is responsible for creating our game day schedules, handling referee training, and overseeing our rec league.  PAGLA.org is a great resource to visit to see how we partner together to promote girls lacrosse!

Teams participating in our PAGLA South region are Avon Grove, Cecil, Coatesville, Kennett Square, Lionville, Oxford, Unionville, West Bradford, and Wilmington. About half of our games will be home and the other half will require travel to these locations (up to 1 hour).

*New this year - USA Lacrosse requires that ALL players participating in PAGLA must become a member of USA Lacrosse ($35). This membership needs to be completed prior to registering for LYA’s program, as your USA Lacrosse Membership # will be needed.  Please register here - https://www.usalacrosse.com/membership.

Grades 1-2:
Practices will be once a week on Thursdays at LYA Park for approximately 1 hour per practice.  The teams will practice in a “clinic” format in which the girls rotate throughout various stations to learn/improve fundamental skills such as cradling, ground balls, passing/catching, shooting, and defense.  Games will be held on Saturdays and may require some travel to our opponents within the PAGLA league.

Grades 3/4:
Practices will be held on Tuesday & Thursdays at LYA Park, beginning the week of March 23rd (weather permitting). Practices will be approximately 1 - 1½  hours per practice.  Games will be held on Saturdays and may require some travel to our opponents within the PAGLA league.  *New this year* - our 3/4 division will wrap up their season by participating in the PAGLA Play Day tournament at USTC. Other teams from PAGLA will all join together for a tournament style day of play! This is a terrific experience for our girls and a wonderful way to end the season.

Grades 5/6:
Practices will be held on weeknights (TBD) at Target Field, beginning the week of March 23rd (weather permitting). Practices will be approximately 1 - 1½  hours per practice.  Games will be held on Saturdays and may require some travel to our opponents within the PAGLA league.  *New this year* - our 5/6 division will wrap up their season by participating in the PAGLA Play Day tournament at USTC.
