LYA Girls Lacrosse – Spring 2024
Welcome to LYA Girls’ Lacrosse!
This program is intended to support participation in lacrosse from Elementary to Middle School age youth in the Downingtown Area School Districts. It is for residents of the Downingtown Area in grades 1 through 8 and is affiliated with the Philadelphia Area Girls’ Lacrosse Association (PAGLA).
Our mission is to promote the game of lacrosse and to provide a safe and fun opportunity while emphasizing the importance of good sportsmanship, fitness and teamwork. Our goal is to teach players fundamental skills for success on and off the field.
**Now including Kindergarten players in our Saturday clinics! Look below for details!**
LYA is a volunteer organization. It cannot be said often enough that the success of the program depends on the dedication of it's volunteers. We are looking for coaches for ALL age groups! Practice plans and additional support are available. NO experience necessary. All we ask is that you donate your time and provide a fun, learning experience for the girls.
All Players will need the following lacrosse equipment to play:
colored mouth guard, protective eye guard, and GIRLS’ lacrosse stick
Grades 1-2 Clinic:
Practices will begin early April. Practices will be once a week for approximately 1 1/2 hours per practice AND on Saturday afternoons (with a Sunday rain date). All the 1st - 2nd grade players will be assigned to a coach and team. The teams will practice in a “clinic” format in which the girls rotate throughout various stations to learn/improve fundamental skills such as cradling, ground balls, passing/catching, shooting, and defense. Stations will last for approximately 60 minutes and will be followed by a short scrimmage. Practices will be held one day per week PLUS on Saturdays at LYA Park.
*Kindergarten girls will play in their own separate clinic on Saturday morning. This is a COED program with kids roughly ages 4-6 years old. We want the girls to build their basic skills and the love of the game in a fun and a positive environment. At the end of the season we will have a small scrimmage so the girls have a chance to practice playing using the skills they learned.
We need coaches! Curriculum will be provided for you to follow each week, including drills! Please consider helping out our program!
Schedule TBD
Grades 3/4:
Practices will be held on weeknights, beginning the week of Monday, March 25th (weather permitting). We may be able to reserve some turf time in March for the girls to begin. If so, you will receive information on that. Practices will be once or twice a week for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes per practice. Practice nights will be determined by your daughter’s coach so please be sure to indicate on the special request line on the registration form what nights your daughter cannot practice. Note- we cannot accommodate each family's schedule all the time. We do our best but it is not guaranteed! Games will be played on Saturdays and will begin April 6th. Each team will play against other LYA teams and possibly travel to play against other PAGLA teams.
Grades 5/6:
We will begin our season with some clinics (indoor, on turf) to evaluate the girls to try to balance our teams as best we can in mid-March. Please look for information on that soon. Practices will be held on weeknights, beginning the week of March 25th (weather permitting).
Grades 7/8:
Our 7/8 program is for girls who have already played lacrosse. We will also begin our season in mid-March with some clinics and turf time to evaluate players to balance teams. There will not be regularly scheduled practices (there may, however, be some informal practices prior to the first game). Games will be played on Saturdays and will begin April 6th. Each team will play against other LYA teams and possibly travel to play against other PAGLA teams.
