Looking to make an impact with the youth in the your Community? Do you have skills - life, leadership, patience and/or sports - that you can share? Rutherford Little League is looking for positive role models to serve as team coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents from Tee-Ball through Major, for both Baseball & Softball.

Rutherford Little League coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents must be leaders. They must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development. They must have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children, and should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, volunteers must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people.

While an adult with training and background in the game of baseball is desirable for coach or assistant coach, there are many other qualities that make a great coach. They must embody the values of the Rutherford Little League, and be sources of inspiration. The Rutherford Little League is working to develop a general curriculum for all coaching levels, to create consistency and help aid the development of our players through the program, from Tee Ball through the Majors. 

Managers and coaches must be adults who are sensitive to the mental and physical limitations of children of Little League age and who recognize that the game is a vehicle of training and enjoyment, not an end in itself. It has been stated many times that the program of Little League can only be as good as the quality of leadership in the managing and coaching personnel.

In order to be a Coach or Assistant Coach for Rutherford Little League Baseball or Softball, it is mandatory that you have the Rutgers Coaching Certification. Rutgers will hold several trainings throughout the year, please be sure to sign up and attend if you haven't already. 

All coaches are required to pass the Rutgers Coaching Certification, and pass a mandatory background check. Volunteers will also be required to attend various Little League meetings throughout the season.
