BACKGROUND CHECK INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLUBS:

Travel and Recreation Coaches and Managers - Background Check Process



ALTERNATE PROCESS FOR BACKGROUND CHECKS
When an individual does not wish to provide a social security number or may not be a citizen, VYSA will accept an FBI BACKGROUND CHECK. The following is for informational purposes only on the process to complete an FBI Background check.  It is the individual's responsibility to complete all steps of the process and pay for all fees without assistance from the club or VYSA.

1. Request a Fingerprint Card from:

2. Have a Full Set of Fingerprints taken
(a)  
Fingerprints may be taken at local police department, or a private agency authorized to do so.
(b)  
Applicants will need photo identification as well as other identification when fingerprints are taken.

3. Send Fingerprints, FBI form and $18 fee to:

4. FBI will return the background check and fingerprint card to the applicant.  May take 6 – 8 weeks.

SafeSport Training for Youth



The U.S. Center for SafeSport has released five training modules focused on Youth Athletes.  The modules are age-based:

  • Preschool
  • Grades K-2
  • Grades 3-5
  • Middle School
  • High School

Each training module is 10-20 minutes in length.  A parent/guardian must first create a SafeSport account in order to give consent for their child to access the training and select the module for their child's age.  The training is free and can be found HERE

SafeSport Training

All Team Officials rostered on travel and recreational teams for the 2022-2023 year will be required to complete the SafeSport training. The SafeSport training will be valid for 1 calendar year, with a refresher course required each year after.

VYSA SAFESPORT POLICY

The VYSA Board of Directors unanimously passed an updated SafeSport policy in August 2019 to include requirements from US Soccer. 

All clubs and leagues are required to become familiar and adhere to all aspects of the new policy.
