Camp in the "Q"
If you register prior to June 1, the cost is $50 per day (you need to purchase in five-day blocks). If you register June 1 to June 21, the cost increases to $60 per day. If you register after June 21, you must register in person, and the cost is $75 per day. Please see more details below.
Don't have all the money now? Still register prior to June 1 and take advantage of the discounts! All plans have payment options so you don't have to pay the full amount when you register. The 5, 10 and 15 day options allow you to pay some when you register and the rest on May 31. The 20, 25, 30, and T,W,T options allow you to pay some when you register, another installment on April 30, and the balance on May 31.
Based on the feedback to the survey we did in the Fall of 2023, we made a number of changes / improvements to our Summer Camp in the Q program. Some of the changes are beyond what our registration / billing system can easily administer so a number of manual checks have to be made and any issues will need to be addressed through emails.
Changes / improvements:
- We have added two additional weeks of camp! - we are going from 28 days to 38 days,
- We kept the option to select all eight weeks of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (Mon, Tues, Wed the week of July 4), but then rather than picking select weeks or select T,W,Ts we are allowing parents to pick the number of days (in five-day increments) they would like their child to attend camp. For example, if a parent purchases ten days of camp, they can send their child to camp two days the fist week, three days the second and five days the fifth. This allows parents greater flexibility to work around any family plans - days need to be picked when registering, and cannot be changed,
- Each child must still be registered separately. Parents cannot register for ten days and send one child for five days and another child for the remaining five days,
- Pay for 30 days of camp and get 8 additional days free!
- We have also added before and after care. Many survey responses expressed interest in this feature so, for an added cost of $10 per hour over all days registered (Less than $8 an hour if your child is going to all 38 days of camp). For the coming summer, we are allowing parents to select to drop their children off at 8 AM, and / or pick them up at 5 PM (9 AM to 4 PM are the usual hours).
- We have added a number of bus trips at no additional cost. On these days campers should be dropped off and picked up at Back Beach, but there will not be any camp activities at Back Beach:
- July 11 - Turtle Back Zoo, in West Orange (campers need to bring their own lunch)
- July 25 - Camp Hope, in West Milford (lunch will be provided)
- August 1 - Camp Hope, in West Milford (lunch will be provided)
- August 8 - Bowling, in Oakland (lunch will be provided)
- There are two special optional trips that have an added cost
- June 27 buses will take campers and counselors to The Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ (a pizza lunch is included). The additional cost will be $30
- July 18 buses will take campers and counselors to Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ. The trip will include lunch and a show. The additional cost will be: $50
- Their will be camp at Back Beach on these two days, so parents who want to send their children to camp, but do not want to send them on these trips , have that option.
Cautions:
- Registration on this site closes on June 21. Anyone looking to register their child after that date must register in-person at either Borough Hall or the Rec Center.
- The cost to register in-person is $75 per day, and days must be purchased in increments of 5.
- If you register and request before and/or after care before June 1, before and after care is guaranteed.
- If you register June 1 or later, before and after care may not be available all days. When registering, you will need to pay for all days / times and someone will get back to you and let you know if you'll be getting a refund for days that we cannot accommodate your before or after care.
System limitations:
This greater flexibility has gone beyond the administrative and billing capability of our system so many of the checks will have to be made manually after the camper is registered.
- When registering you will first select how many days you are purchasing. Later in the process you will be asked which specific days you will send your child to camp . There is no system check that the number of individual days you check matches the total number of days you will be paying for. This will be done after the fact, and if there is any discrepancy, you will receive an email.
- There are separate questions if you want your child to attend either of our special trips (The Land of Make Believe & Medieval Times). The system cannot link asking the question only to those specific dates. If you answer yes to one or both those questions but haven't picked the appropriate date, you will receive an email asking if you want to change dates or get a refund.
- If you select to pay with a payment plan, please keep in mind that the system works backwards. All but the first payment is set. The first payment is backed into by taking the total due less each of the set payments. One of the issues we have had in the past is credit cards expiring between the date a parent first registers and when a later payment is due. If at all possible, please use a credit card that expires after May 31.
Refunds:
Other than for hardship, full refunds will be based on 95% of the pre-June base registration fee, and 90% of any before or after care fee. There will be no refunds for the cost of any trips. Requests must be made prior to the beginning of camp.
Other than for hardship, there will be no partial refunds.
