Scheduling conflicts between sports that impact player’s attendance.

Conflicts will occur for any number of reasons that are not in a coach’s control

  • More sports and activities available to children every year,
  •  Existing sports and activities having longer and multiple seasons,
  •  Sports having to economically schedule trainers across multiple teams, and
  •  Leagues or opponents dictating schedules.
  1. While, if possible, it is still good for coaches to try to avoid conflicts, no sport should try to avoid conflicts for one team or player at the expense of another team or player.
  2.  Players should be free to choose which sport's event they will attend, which generally means games at the expense of practices.
  3.  Coaches should not penalize players, in any way, for not attending practices, but at the same time, parents and players need to realize that players who practice more may have better skills, and they will end up playing more (unfortunately, players who try to play two or more sports disadvantage themselves in both sports - naturally gifted athletes being somewhat of an exception)
  4.  Parents and players must keep all coaches informed of when they are or aren't going to attend - both practices and games, but especially games.
