League Info

PONY Baseball stands as a premier international youth baseball organization, dedicated to not only nurturing children into exceptional athletes but also fostering their development as outstanding individuals.

At PONY, we prioritize instilling a deep understanding of Major League Baseball (MLB) rules from the early stages of a player's journey. By the time they reach the Mustang 10U level, our players are adept at playing by MLB standards, enjoying the freedom of leading, stealing, and navigating through balks, dropped third strikes, and more.

In our commitment to comprehensive skill development, we introduce players to pitching machines right from the onset in our 6U program. This allows for early pitch recognition and refinement. While our Shetland players may hit off a tee if they miss the machine pitches, our approach ensures continuous progress and engagement.

The impact of PONY baseball resonates both nationally and internationally, as evidenced by the consistent emergence of top-tier players. In 2019 alone, an impressive 15 players named to the Major League Baseball All-Star teams hailed from PONY baseball programs worldwide, including notable figures like Cody Bellinger.

Ahwatukee PONY League offers the following divisions:

  • Pony 14U is typically limited to league-age 14 and 13 players.

  • Broncos 12U is typically limited to league-age 12 and 11 players.

  • Mustang 10U is typically limited to league-age 10 and 9 players.

  • Pinto 8U is typically limited to league-age 8 and 7 players.

  • Shetland 6U is typically limited to league-age 6 and 5 players.

Ahwatukee PONY League also offers Champions League:

All players of any age with special needs are enthusiastically encouraged to join. Please note: Champions League participants are those with special needs that may hinder their participation in a conventional baseball or softball program. The Champions League offers a welcoming and non-competitive environment tailored to their needs.

Team Assignment Information:

For Champions players, team assignments will be made based on age category by the Division Director.

The Shetland Director will allocate Shetland 6U players to teams and coaches. Players may request to be on the same team as a friend in the league, and while we strive to accommodate such requests, we cannot guarantee placement with friends.

All other players (Pinto 8U, Mustang 10U & Bronco 12U) will participate in a relaxed, enjoyable skills evaluation clinic. The purpose of this evaluation is not to exclude any players from participation but rather to assess and rank their skill sets to ensure each team has a balanced distribution of talent. Coaches will conduct the draft on the Monday following the skills evaluation, with detailed information provided to coaches before the draft.
