Tournament Director Duties

  • Tournament Directors are to ensure that teams follow Little League Rules and Regulations.

  • Tournament Directors are to ensure a copy of the Little League Playing Rules are available at each game site.  Hardcopy books are available from the District Administrator. 

  • Shall appoint an official scorer for each game.

  • Shall appoint an official pitch counter for each game. 

  • Shall judge fitness of the playing field before the game starts.

  • Judges that there is adequate time to complete the game before darkness or curfew.

  • Meet teams – conduct coin Toss – winner of the coin toss can choose Home or Away – Home team will occupy 1st base dugout.

  • Receives each team’s Eligibility Affidavit prior to each game (binders to be onsite in possession of Team Manager – NOT at TD table).

  • Verify all players are listed on Team’s Official Line-Up are listed on the Team Affidavit. Check this for EACH TEAM before EVERY GAME.
  • Only adults and players listed on the Affidavit are allowed on the field and in the Dugouts before and during the games – Extra adults are not permitted on the field at any time. Up to three (3) rostered Manager/Coaches allowed no matter the number of players at the game is. 

  • Review written ground rules with teams and umpires 15 minutes before game. Each field might have ground rules regarding out of play territory to be discussed with the manager and umpire before each game.

  • Shall advise both team managers that all players must complete minimum play of one (1) at-bat in Continuous Batting Order format.

  • Requests for permanent player, manager or coach replacements must be made prior to the game. 

  • NEW! A new printed Affidavit and map from the Data Center will be required for replacements or added players.  Documents are to be appended to original signed Affidavits. Player and/coach documents are to be added to team binder. (contact District Administrator (DA) for guidance 415 342 1209)

  • Approve temporary manager and coach replacements.

  • Sign affidavit for each ejection. Report to DA after game. 

  • Sign affidavit for each pitcher’s entry after each game
Ejections
  • Tournament directors DO have the authority to eject the manager if they witness either: adults warming up players; or batting practice.
  • Violation of a team doing batting practice at a game site: the manager will be ejected from that game.
  • If the manager is ejected then the result is that there are only two (2) coaches left and one has to stay in the dugout, therefore there would be only one (1) adult base coach.
  • NOTE: No adult may warm up a pitcher - that is only allowed during Regular season and not during Tournament season)
