Thank you Volunteers!

Gilroy Little League (GLL) is possible because of the many volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to player development and fun. Thank you to all of our volunteers!

The safety of our players and volunteers is of utmost importance: above player development and fun. Therefore, volunteers of GLL are required to complete the following:

ALL VOLUNTEERS (in contact with GLL youth for 16 hours or more per month, or 32 hours or more per year):

1.    Volunteer Application & Background Check: GLL partners with JD Palatine to process all volunteer background checks. All volunteers need to register as volunteers via the GLL SportsConnect registration system. Thereafter, an email with a JDP link will be sent to each volunteer for background check completion. The link expires, so volunteers should complete the background check upon receipt.

  • This is a Little League International requirement.
  • Must be completed annually.

2.    Live Scan Fingerprinting: Even if you are fingerprinted through another organization (e.g. work, alternate youth sports program), you must be fingerprinted with GLL specifically. As long as you serve contiguously (no break in service between seasons), you need not repeat fingerprinting next season.  If you are unable to attend the scheduled date, it is your responsibility to complete Live Scan fingerprinting and provide proof of completion. IMPORTANT: You must bring the GLL specific form with you, if you get Live Scanned fingerprinted on your own: Live Scan Request form.

  • This is a California Law (Assembly Bill No. 506).
  •  GLL hosted Live Scan Fingerprinting: Saturday, January 31st from 8:30 – 10:30 at Gilroy Police Department Community Room (Hannah Street in Gilroy). Cost is $20 per person, payable with cash, check, or credit card.

3.    Little League Abuse Awareness Training: Completed via Little League University. You will need to create an account with Little League International or login to an existing account.

  • This is a Little League International requirement, as well as a federal requirement via the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017.
  • This must be completed annually.
  • Upon completion, please save a PDF version of the completion certificate and upload to your Volunteer profile.

4.    Little League Diamond Leader Training: Completed via Little League University. You will need to create a new account with LLI or login to an existing account. If you have previously completed Diamond Leader training, you need not take it again, however, you will be required to show proof of completion.

  • Required by Little League International.
  • Only need to complete one time, assuming continuous service year-to-year with GLL.
  • Upon completion, please save a PDF version of the completion certificate and upload to your Volunteer profile.

TEAM MANAGERS (“HEAD COACHES”) and ASSISTANT COACHES:

1.    Concussion Certification: Completed via NFHS.org

  • Required by the State of California per “Youth Sports Concussion Protocols”, and the California Health Safety Code under “Adolescent Health” section 124235.
  • Complete every two years, assuming continuous year-to-year service with GLL.
  • Upon completion, please save a PDF version of the completion certificate and upload to your Volunteer profile.

2.    Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Prevention Training:  Completed via Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation.

3.    Basic First Aid & CPR Training: This will be satisfied by attending the GLL Safety Meeting on 1/31/26. If you cannot attend the mandatory Safety Meeting, you must complete a basic first aid training online. Any online First Aid & CPR training will satisfy the requirement, however we recommend the following free training: https://www.firstaidforfree.com/free-online-first-aid-courses/.

4.    Little League Safety Awareness Training: This is a new training offered by Little League International via your Little League University account. It is recommended for all Coaches, as it provides volunteers with a broad overview of key safety concepts and best practices that support safe league operations. Designed specifically for the Little League program, this course helps volunteers better understand their role in promoting safety, recognizing potential hazards, and supporting a strong culture of safety throughout the season.

  • This is not a Little League International requirement, but it is strongly recommended for all coaches.
  • Encouraged to be taken annually.
  • No certification issued.

5.    Little League First Aid Awareness Training: This is a new training offered by Little League International via your Little League University account. It is recommended for all Coaches as it is designed to introduce common injuries, basic first aid principles, and important response considerations specific to the Little League environment. This course is not a certification program, but it provides practical awareness and guidance to help volunteers recognize injuries, respond appropriately, and understand when additional medical care may be needed.

  • This is not a Little League International requirement, but it is strongly recommended for all coaches.
  • Encouraged to be taken annually.
  • No certification issued.

In addition to the above training requirements, all Team Managers are required to attend one Safety Training hosted by GLL’s Safety Director on January 31st, 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00 at GLL’s Locker (505 Mayock Road).  If a Team Manager is unable to attend, please inform your Division Director and he/she will coordinate directly. This must be completed before the first practice, and before equipment is issued to the Team Manager.
