Spring 2023: AYBS Senior Baseball / Tri-Valley Babe Ruth
Hello AYBS Parents:
This year Ashland will again be playing in the Tri-Valley Babe Ruth league run by Medway Little League with rules similar to high school, i.e. leading, stealing, balks, pick-off, etc. Ashland already participates in Medway's Tri-Valley Babe Ruth Summer and Fall leagues. The Senior Baseball Spring league is for youth players age 13 to 117 and is considered competitive baseball and played on the full-sized diamond. The league is split into a Minors (ages 13 – 14) and Majors League (ages 15 – 17). While the towns participating may vary year-to-year, Ashland will play against other Tri-Valley teams, such as Bellingham, Hopedale, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medway, Medfield, & Millis.
The Babe Ruth season will start in April, tentatively after Spring Break and go into June with playoffs. The exact dates are yet to be determined but for a rough idea of schedules, most weeks, there will be one weekday practice, one weekday game, and one Saturday game. Rainouts will most likely be played on Sundays. We will typically have half of our games at home and half out of town. Home games and practices will be at Stone Park.
Below are some FAQ’s to try to also answer specific questions.
Q: What if my child makes the AMS baseball team? Should/can they play both leagues?
A:
Though I certainly would not tell you what is right for your child, we will make every effort to avoid overlap between these two programs, so it is certainly possible to play in both leagues and many athletes have in the past. However, for the past few years, we have had several boys register, but the number wasn’t available to split the players into multiple teams, with a decent amount of kids on each team. In an effort to make sure that everyone gets to play on a team, we have had to release student athletes that are on the AMS or AHS team and only have boys on the Babe Ruth team that are not on a school team. For clarity, it is not an AYBS policy to not allow athletes on the AMS or AHS team on the Babe Ruth spring team, but that is the way for the past few years, that we have addressed the number situation. Every effort will be made not to have to do this.
When registering in the “Special Comments/Request” section if your son is trying out for AMS or AHS, please indicate if he will play both Babe Ruth, AMS/AHS or both Babe Ruth and AMS/AHS. This will help us plan for jerseys, coaches, etc. If by chance you already registered please email

.
Q: Are there specific bat requirements in Babe Ruth?
A: Here is the 2022 rule via the league website:
2022 Babe Ruth League, Inc. Approved and Non-Compliant Bats
. Basically, bats need to be USA Baseball or BBCOR .50.
