Ashland Youth Baseball & Softball

Fall Softball Programs

Fall programs run from early September – late October. Fall program age groupings are based on grade level through Grade 6 and USA Softball age designation rules will apply for Grades 7 and older. 

Grades K-1: Sandlot 


K-Ball Sandlot Program Description: Softball Sandlot is a fun, mixed age program meant to provide our younger and more inexperienced players with an opportunity to advance their skills during the fall. There are fun skills-and-drills activities as well as coach pitch scrimmages amongst the players. 

Sessions: Fall Sandlot Program will be held on a weeknight picked by the coach/coaches (5:30-6:30 PM) at Warren School field closest to the School Annex. Runs after Labor day to mid Oct (6-7 weeks).

Equipment Needed: A glove, bat, and helmet are needed. Balls will be provided. 

1st Grade Sandlot Program Description: Softball Sandlot is a fun program meant to provide our younger and more inexperienced players with an opportunity to advance their skills during the fall. There are fun skills-and-drills activities as well as coach pitch scrimmages amongst the players. 

Sessions: 
Fall Sandlot Program will be held on a weeknight picked by the coach/coaches (5:30-6:30 PM) at Warren School field closest to the School Annex. 
Runs after Labor day to mid Oct (6-7 weeks).

Equipment Needed: A glove, bat, and helmet are needed. Balls will be provided. 

Grades 2-3: Minors Softball

Program Description: Minors Softball teams play in the recreational Metrowest Girls Softball League and introduces player pitching and catching, stolen bases, and three outs/inning. Emphasis is on fundamentals and increasing situational awareness. Coaches pitch when a batter has 3 balls. An 11” soft safety softball is used at this level. 

Sessions: 
1 game per week on Saturdays at 4:00 PM in Ashland or neighboring towns. And 1 practice per week. Season has 6 games 3 home and 3 away. Practices start mid to end of Aug and Season stats after Labor Day till mid Oct.

Equipment Needed: 
A glove, bat, and helmet (with facemask) are needed. Fielding masks are required for all players.

Grades 4-5: Majors Softball

Program Description: Majors Softball “Softball teams play in the recreational Metrowest Girls Softball League. This league is full player pitch using a 12” hard softball. At this level, most of the players have developed an understanding of the game and have several seasons of experience. Emphasis is on skill development/improvement,
situational awareness, communication, and understanding the game. 

Sessions:
 1 game per week on Sundays at 1:00 PM in Ashland or neighboring towns. with a practice once a week. 3 home and 3 away games. Starts after Labor Day till mid Oct.

Equipment Needed: 
A glove, bat, and helmet (with facemask) are needed. Fielding masks are required for all players.

Grades 6-8: Senior Softball 

Program Description: Seniors Softball Teams play in the Metrowest Girls Softball League

This league is full player pitch using a 12” hard softball. At this level, most of the players have developed an understanding of the game and have several seasons of experience. Emphasis is on skill development/improvement, situational awareness, communication, and understanding the game. 

 Sessions: 1 game on Sundays at either at 3 PM in Ashland or neighboring towns. 1 practice per week. 3 Home Games and 3 away games. Starts after Labor Day till mid Oct.

Equipment Needed: A glove, bat, and helmet (with facemask) are needed. Fielding masks are required for all players.
