Vincent McAlister Wins the 2020 Yusef Shabazz Sportsmanship Award

In 2015, SDLL began awarding the Yusef Shabazz Sportsmanship Scholarship Award at the annual Opening Ceremony for the spring season.  Yusef Shabazz was a long time SDLL coach that passed away unexpectedly. And though current times have impacted our League and presently canceled all events, including Opening Ceremonies, this operational pause has not cancelled the awarding of the annual Shabazz award.  Our 2020 award winner has played for SDLL for seven (7) years. He is described by his coaches as a humble, respectful and a tough baseball player. One coach is quoted as saying “a harder worker would be difficult to find and measure against – he listens attentively, always engaged in the game and with the team, lightens the mood in the dugout during tough times, wants to be coached and applies what he is taught. Though humble and somewhat quiet, he is a huge presence on the team.”  One of his teammates, a long time SDLL player as well, said “he is the best teammate he has ever had”.  In a league filled with many wonderful players, players who are very good teammates and even better friends, we are proud to announce VINCENT MCALISTER as the 2020 SDLL Yusef Shabazz Scholarship Award Winner!  Vincent now joins Jo Jo, Maleik, Trey, Maxwell, Landon, Braxton and Landon – a great company of players. Congratulations to Vincent, and his Mother (Chuanita) and Father (Kareem), from ALL of your fellow SDLL players and their families.
