Coaching Overview

Managers and coaches are the life-blood of NCLL. This section provides an overview of the information and resources available to our managers and coaches.

As a reminder, in baseball and softball, the Head Coach is referred to as the Manager. We know that can be confusing because in other sports the Team Manager is often the logistics coordinator who does not do any coaching.

     Manager = Head Coach

     Coach = Assistant Coach

Conduct:

NCLL is a Positive Coaching league, which means that all Managers are expected to attend a seminar from the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and uphold the rules of conduct and approach to youth sports set forth by NCLL and PCA. NCLL believes that baseball and softball are the means to helping kids learn and grow, not just as athletes, but as people.

Registration:

Coaches, including assistant coaches and team managers, need to complete the Coach/Volunteer registration through our website. Begin by clicking the register button above.

Many coaches are parents of players. During the player registration process, parents may inform us that they are interested in coaching. You must still complete your coach registration.

Note: Please use your legal first and last name when registering.

1) Online: Complete the Coach/Volunteer registration through the website.

2) Supplemental Information: After registering through the website, follow the instructions in the confirmation email requesting supplemental information.

Once NCLL has the necessary information they will conduct a background check. For more information on background checks, see this page.

If you do not intend to return to coaching, please inform the Head Registrar.

Team Formation & Manager Assignments:

  • New Managers need to indicate their interest in leading a team during the registration process. During the team formation process, a team will be formed around the Manager and the Manager's child taking into account placement requests to the extent possible.
  • Returning managers also need to indicate their interest in managing during the registration process as no manager is guaranteed a spot. All efforts will be made to keep players and teams together from previous years AT THE AA LEVEL AND BELOW. To facilitate this process, players returning from the previous season need to register before the deadline in order to guarantee a spot on the same team. Assistant coaches can request teams at AAA and below.
  • AT THE AAA LEVEL AND ABOVE, teams are formed to achieve parity as is required by Little League International. All players interested in playing AAA and above will participate in a formal (baseball) or informal (softball) assessment, which will be used to create equal teams.

Rules:

NCLL follows Little League rules. All Managers are given a Little League rule book at the beginning of the season and asked to familiarize themselves with the rules. NCLL also has division-specific local rules, posted on the site.
