The TOPSoccer program is for children with disabilities in our community. These are children that cannot participate and play with the majority of the kids, or may be shunned. TOPSoccer provides children the opportunity to enjoy soccer and the thrill of playing a team sport. The Outreach Program for Soccer, TOPSoccer was formed by US Youth Soccer to further their goal "To foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development of America's youth in soccer at all levels of age and competition". It also meets Oregon Youth Soccer's mission statement "To foster an environment that promotes the physical, mental, and emotional development of Oregon's youth through the sport of soccer".
TOPSoccer is managed through Oregon Youth Soccer, and hosted by local soccer clubs. OYSA provides TOPSoccer some equipment to set up a successful program. Eastside Timbers runs two 8-week sessions, one in the Fall and one in the Spring along with a summer camp at the end of June. Soft soccer balls, pop up goals, equipment bags, "bell" balls for children with vision impairment, and "wheelchair" balls are all be provided along with an array of sensory stimulating equipment.
All TOPSoccer players need to register by filling out and returning to Eastside the TOPSoccer Registration form, TOPSoccer Communication Intake form and the Medical form. If you have participated in the past please email Sue Hughes at [email protected] and let her to know to expect you again so she can have a buddy available for you.
TOPSoccer is considered a free program to any child with a disability age 5 years old and up but in order to cover OYSA insurance we charge $15 per year. Donations are accepted. 100% of the donation goes to pay for rental space, refreshments, and equipment.
