2021-2022 Boys Rec Basketball Rules
High school rules with the following exceptions:
- Games will not start unless there is one scorekeeper and one clock person. Children shall not operate the clock.
- Games consist of two 20-minute halves.
- Clock runs continually, except last 2 minutes of each half when the clock will be turned off at every whistle.
- Clock will not start until ball is over half-court in the last two minutes of the game (second half). This is to prevent winning team from running the clock down in the back-court.
- Each team is allowed 2 one-minute timeouts per half. Timeouts cannot be carried over into the second half. The clock stops during timeouts.
- Player is out of the game once they have committed 5 personal fouls.
- Player shoots one-and-one after 7 team fouls. Player shoots two shots after 10 team fouls.
- No pressing in the back court. If a team is winning by 10 points or more, they must remain inside the 3-point line on defense. Once the winning team drops below 10 points, they can come back out of the 3-point line. If both teams agree before the game starts, full court pressing will be allowed the last 2 minutes of the game, but the 10+ point rule is still in effect.
- Every player must play one-half of the game, unless a team has more than 10 players, in which case coaches must make every effort to rotate the players equally.
- Subs cannot play more time than a team’s player.
- Only players allowed on court before and after games and during half-time and time-outs.
