What Players Need to Bring
- Players should wear baseball pants and turf cleats, molded cleats or athletic shoes with grip. No slides, slip-ons, or metal spikes allowed.
- The assessments will run rain or shine, and harsh weather can be stronger at MSHS than elsewhere in the Valley. Please have players dress appropriately and bring a coat, hat and gloves/hand warmers to ensure your player stays warm and dry as they wait for their turn between skill stations.
- Players need to bring their mitt, USA-stamped bat (USSSA or BBCOR-stamped bats are not eligible in Little League), and batting helmet.
- If you don't have a bat or helmet, the league will have those available for player use.
- If your player has catcher's gear and hopes to play the catcher position, please bring your equipment.
Purpose and Goal of Skills Assessment
- Falls Little League approved Board Members, Managers and Assistant Coaches facilitate the skills assessment to evaluate and score the skill set of all players. Players will be rated on throwing and catching, ground balls, pop-ups, pitching and hitting.
- The data is aggregated and used during the draft process for AAA, Coast, and Majors teams to ensure parity across all teams and divisions. This is not a try-out. All registered players will be selected to a team.
Other Helpful Info
- It is normal for players to have some nerves coming into assessments, especially for our younger ages. We encourage parents to remind their players that Little League is designed to be fun and inclusive - we are looking for all players to do their best, but not worry about being the best. Remind your player to give maximum effort no matter their current abilities, and to pay attention and listen to the coaches.
- Water and snacks are allowed at breaks between skills stations. Items should be left in gear bags, which can be stored near the bleachers in the public area of the complex.
- No gum, seeds, food or drinks are allowed on the athletic fields or in the batting cages.
- All League Age 8 play-up requests, if absolutely unable to attend, will not be draft eligible for AAA.
Unable to attend January 25th? The League needs to be informed - please reach out to us as soon as possible! If your player is sick or injured in the days leading up to the Skills Assessment or becomes sick the day of, please notify the Baseball Player Agents: [email protected].
