LYBL 2020-2021 BASKETBALL SEASON

The LYBL Board met several times over the last few weeks to discuss how we can possibly support a season in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.  We were briefed by the Director of Park and Recreation on all of the requirements for school gym use that are constantly changing day by day.

At this time, we decided to postpone the start of our season until after Winter Break.  We hope that, by doing so, we can see how the cold and flu season is impacting the community along with the pandemic.  We also hope the delay will allow the guidelines from the Connecticut Department of Public Health and CIAC to stabilize.  In addition, we should be able to see how things are working at the high school level and learn from their experience.

We are considering running clinics in the late fall to get the kids to start to play in small groups for just drills and not actual game play.  We want to check in with the families to see what you would be comfortable with for your children with the current state of things.

If you could please email [email protected] and answer the following questions, it would be very helpful for the Board in determining how to proceed with basketball in Ledyard for the year:

(1)  Would you be interested in your child participating in fall basketball clinics?  What guidelines would make you most comfortable with them participating - small groups, mask wear, etc?

(2)  Would you be interested in your child participating in league play/practice after Winter Break?
What guidelines would make you most comfortable with them participating - small groups, mask wear, etc?

(3)  For girls who played on the Travel Teams last year, it appears that the SE CT league we normally play in is moving the season to spring.  Would you be interested in playing in spring?  I will send out more information to the girl's team members separately once all information if confirmed.

Thank you in advance for your responses.  We really hope to be able to run some sort of basketball program for the town this year!
