2024-2025 Ledyard Youth Basketball

WELCOME TO THE LEDYARD YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE! We are excited that you are interested in our program. Our goal is to develop the youth of Ledyard to compete in Middle School, High School, and beyond with a love for the game of basketball. Registration is open as of September 8th and will close on November 9th. The season will run from tryouts and evaluations beginning in October through final games in March.

CTBBC TRAVEL:

This season, we will again offer travel teams for both boys and girls for grades 3rd through 8th in the Connecticut Basketball Conference (CTBBC). The CTBBC games will be played throughout the state with the majority of games played locally. Middle School-aged children are able to play in this league AND participate in the LMS basketball teams. The games will NOT conflict. Only interested players will tryout for these travel teams. Tryouts will be held on October 16th at Ledyard Middle School from 5-9 PM (time based on age level). We are working with the schools to identify a second tryout date that week and will let all registered players know the schedule. Any player interested in trying out for the CTBBC travel teams must register for the "CTBBC TRAVEL TEAM" either "WITH UNIFORM" or "WITHOUT UNIFORM" depending on whether the player already received a travel uniform for the 2023-2024 season. No player will be allowed to tryout without paying for registration first. Both boys and girls of all ages who are interested in the CTBBC must register in this category. Once the travel team rosters are identified, any player who did NOT make the travel team will be refunded the cost for travel and will be placed into the regular divisions at the appropriate price. Registration for the travel teams will close on October 16th. There are no high school teams in the CTBBC.

EVALUATIONS:

Regular evaluations will be scheduled for all players other than Bitty (Grades 1-2) following the travel team tryout. All players who were not selected for the travel teams or who did not tryout for the travel teams will attend these evaluations. ALL players must evaluate. The goal of these evaluations is to create fairly distributed teams - ALL players will be placed on a team. There will be NO CUTS. These evaluations will take place on Saturday, November 2nd from 8 AM to 4 PM with a make-up date on Saturday, November 9th. Times for these evaluations will be scheduled in the next few weeks depending on registration numbers.

TEAM ORGANIZATION:

The LYBL Mixed Division includes players in Grades 1 through 12 separated into age groups for Bitty (Grades 1-2), Instructional (Grades 3-4), Juniors (Grades 5-6), Seniors (Grades 7-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). LYBL high school players CANNOT play any level of basketball at any high school in accordance with CIAC rules.

For Bitty and Instructional, all games are played on Saturday mornings through the season at Gales Ferry School. For Juniors, Seniors, and High School, the games will be played in Ledyard, East Lyme, and potentially Griswold.

Girl players in grades 3 through 12 who do not play in the CTBBC will be placed in the Girls Only Southeastern CT Regional Girls Basketball League unless they strongly desire to play in the Mixed Divisions. The Southeastern CT Regional League typically plays games in Ledyard, New London, Groton, and occasionally other local towns. The LYBL Board strongly recommends that girls in 3rd grade and above play on the Girls Only teams.

COSTS:

The cost of registration for the LYBL varies based on the level of play and whether a uniform is needed or not.

$75 for Bitty (which includes the required uniform, a team t-shirt)
$100 for all other ages, non-CTBBC, including the Girls Southeastern CT Regional League, players WITHOUT REQUIRED STANDARD UNIFORM
$130 for non-CTBBC, including the Girls Southeastern CT Regional League, players WITH REQUIRED STANDARD UNIFORM
$150 CTBBC Travel Team Registration WITHOUT REQUIRED TRAVEL UNIFORM (player can confirm travel uniform from 2023-2024 season)
$200 CTBBC Travel Team Registration WITH REQUIRED TRAVEL UNIFORM

UNIFORMS FOR NON-CTBBC TRAVEL PLAYERS:

- For the regular LYBL players (non-CTBBC, including the girls playing in the Southeastern CT Regional League ), uniforms MUST be purchased during Registration if needed. You will have the option to select the appropriate age division for your child WITH (W/) UNIFORM or without one. If you have a uniform from a previous season that is in good condition, it may be worn. The cost of the jersey and shorts is $30 total.

- CTBBC Travel Team uniforms will be ordered in the same manner. Please register for WITH (W/) UNIFORM or without one, as appropriate. These players MUST purchase the TRAVEL uniform for $50 for jersey and shorts. The standard uniform cannot be worn.

- All uniforms will be purchased by the league and delivered to coaches. Please be sure to include sizes for both jersey and shorts while registering.

- For Bitty players, please list a T-shirt size during Registration. Bitty Basketball players receive a T-shirt as part of registration and do NOT need to purchase this uniform.

TYPICAL SCHEDULES:

Bitty players will practice once per week with games on Saturday morning. All Bitty events take place at Gales Ferry School. All other teams will practice twice per week with later times reserved for older players. LYBL and Southeastern CT Regional League girls' players will play games on Saturdays with occasional make-up games during the week (when cancelled due to weather or other reasons). CTBBC games are typically scheduled Friday through Sunday at different locations throughout CT. Players may have 1-2 games per weekend with potential make-up games during the week.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

The LYBL will conduct fundraisers during the season. These will include team and player pictures and fan merchandise.

Our LYBL Fan Wear store is currently OPEN at https://lyblfall2024spiritwear.itemorder.com/. The store will remain open until NOVEMBER 9TH when registration closes. ALL items will be mailed out 3 weeks following the date the store closes on or about NOVEMBER 30TH. Even if you place your order in September, items will not be sent out until November for ease of inventory for our provider. Our first games will take place on December 7th, so items should be received prior to the first games. LYBL gear makes a great holiday gift as well!

We need volunteers! This season, we are looking for a Bitty Division Commissioner, a Fundraising Coordinator, a Webmaster, and coaches. For coaches, the Board will assist you with what to teach the team. Please consider volunteering! Thank you so much in advance.

Reminders for tryouts and evaluations and the complete schedules will be sent over email to all registered players and will be posted on our website and on Facebook.
