The Ledyard Youth Basketball League runs from October through March. This season, we will offer travel teams for both boys and girls for grades 3rd through 8th in the Connecticut Basketball Conference (CTBBC). All players will be evaluated for these teams at league evaluations. The registration will ask parents if they are interested in their children playing on these teams if coaches determine the player is capable of competing at the travel team lev el. After the initial evaluation, the travel team coaches may elect to hold a second tryout of players to pick the final travel teams. Because this league requires a team registration fee, all players selected will be required to pay an additional $20 to cover this fee. The CTBBC games will be played throughout the state with the majority of games either in Ledyard or in Norwich. Middle School-aged children are able to play in this league AND participate in the LMS basketball teams. The games will NOT conflict.

 

Girl players in grades 3 through 8 have several options for play. They can play on the more elite CTBBC girls travel team. If they do not make the CTBBC Ledyard team, they can either play in the girls only Southeastern CT Regional Girls Basketball League or in the LYBL Mixed Division which offers teams made up of both boys and girls who play against one another in Ledyard. A separate evaluation will be held for girl players. The Southeastern CT Regional League typically plays games in Ledyard, New London, Groton, and occasionally other local towns.

 

The LYBL Mixed Division includes players in grades 1 through 8 separated into age groups for Bitty (Grades 1-2), Instructional (Grades 3-4), Juniors (Grades 5-6), and Seniors (Grades 7-8).  All games are played either at Ledyard Middle School or Gales Ferry School

 

The cost of registration for the LYBL is $65 for Bitty and $90 for all other ages.

 

Uniforms MUST be purchased during Registration if needed. You will have the option to select the appropriate age division for your child WITH (W/) UNIFORM or without one. If you have a uniform from a previous season that is in good condition, it may be worn. The cost of the jersey and shorts is $25 total. The uniforms will be purchased by the league and delivered to coaches. Please be sure to include sizes for both jersey and shorts while registering. Bitty Basketball players receive a T-shirt as part of registration and do NOT need to purchase this uniform. For Bitty players, please list a T-shirt size during Registration. These same uniforms will be worn in both the CTBBC and Southeastern CT Girls Leagues - no additional gear will be required.

 

The LYBL will conduct fundraisers during the season. These will include team and player pictures and fan merchandise. Stay tuned for these during the season.

 

All required Connecticut Department of Public Health and Ledyard Public Schools COVID-19 protocols will be followed for all league activities. These protocols will be distributed to parents before practices begin as they are changing frequently.

 

We need volunteers, including Coaches, a Fundraising Coordinator, a Scheduler, and a Uniform Coordinator. For coaches, the Board will assist you with what to teach the team. Please consider volunteering! Thank you so much in advance.

 

Player evaluations will take place during the week of October 18th for girls team only players and on October 23rd for all boy players and girls registered for the LYBL Mixed Division. Announcements for these evaluations will be sent over email to all registered players and will be posted on our website and on Facebook.
