WELCOME TO THE LEDYARD YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE! We are excited that you are interested in our program. Our goal is to develop the youth of Ledyard to compete in Middle School, High School, and beyond with a love for the game of basketball. Registration is open as of October 1st and will close on November 1st. The season will run from tryouts and evaluations in October through final games in March.

CTBBC TRAVEL:

This season, we will again offer travel teams for both boys and girls for grades 3rd through 8th in the Connecticut Basketball Conference (CTBBC). The CTBBC games will be played throughout the state with the majority of games played locally. Middle School-aged children are able to play in this league AND participate in the LMS basketball teams. The games will NOT conflict. Only interested players will tryout for these travel teams. Tryouts will be held in mid-October. Any player interested in trying out for the CTBBC travel teams must register for the "PRE-REGISTRATION CTBBC TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUT". There will be NO COST for this registration. Both boys and girls of all ages who are interested in the CTBBC must register in this category. Once the travel team rosters are identified, the selected players will pay the cost for CTBBC Travel Team Registration. This cost will include a travel team uniform which is different from the regular LYBL uniform. Travel Team registration will close on October 12th.

EVALUTIONS:

Regular evaluations will be scheduled for all players other than Bitty (Grades 1-2) following the travel team tryout. All players who were not selected for the travel teams or who did not tryout for the travel teams will attend these evaluations. ALL players must evaluate. The goal of these evaluations is to create fairly distributed teams - ALL players will be placed on a team. There will be NO CUTS.

TEAM ORGANIZATION:

The LYBL Mixed Division includes players in Grades 1 through 8 separated into age groups for Bitty (Grades 1-2), Instructional (Grades 3-4), Juniors (Grades 5-6), and Seniors (Grades 7-8).  All games are played either at Ledyard Middle School or Gales Ferry School. Depending on how many players register for the Seniors level, these teams have recently played in other town leagues, such as Groton and East Lyme. This decision will be made by the LYBL Board once registration is complete based on numbers of players registered. Girl players in grades 3 through 8 who do not play in the CTBBC will be placed in the Girls Only Southeastern CT Regional Girls Basketball League unless they strongly desire to play in the Mixed Divisions. The Southeastern CT Regional League typically plays games in Ledyard, New London, Groton, and occasionally other local towns. The LYBL Board strongly recommends that girls in 3rd grade and above play on the Girls Only teams.

COSTS:

The cost of registration for the LYBL is $75 for Bitty (which includes the required uniform, a team t-shirt) and $100 for all other ages. CTBBC Travel Team Registration will cost $200 which WILL INCLUDE THE REQUIRED TRAVEL UNIFORM.

UNIFORMS FOR NON-CTBBC TRAVEL PLAYERS:

For the regular LYBL players (non-CTBBC, but including the girls playing in the Southeastern CT Regional League ), uniforms MUST be purchased during Registration if needed. You will have the option to select the appropriate age division for your child WITH (W/) UNIFORM or without one. If you have a uniform from a previous season that is in good condition, it may be worn. The cost of the jersey and shorts is $30 total. The uniforms will be purchased by the league and delivered to coaches. Please be sure to include sizes for both jersey and shorts while registering. Bitty Basketball players receive a T-shirt as part of registration and do NOT need to purchase this uniform. For Bitty players, please list a T-shirt size during Registration.

TYPICAL SCHEDULES:

Bitty players will practice once per week with games on Saturday morning. All Bitty events take place at Gales Ferry School. All other teams will practice twice per week with later times reserved for older players. LYBL and Southeastern CT Regional League girls' players will play games on Saturdays with occasional make-up games during the week (when cancelled due to weather or other reasons). CTBBC games are typically scheduled Friday through Sunday at different locations throughout CT. Players may have 1-2 games per weekend with potential make-up games during the week.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

• The LYBL will conduct fundraisers during the season. These will include team and player pictures and fan merchandise. Stay tuned for these during the season.

• All required Connecticut Department of Public Health and Ledyard Public Schools COVID-19 protocols will be followed for all league activities. These protocols will be distributed to parents before practices begin, as necessary.

• We need volunteers! For coaches, the Board will assist you with what to teach the team. Please consider volunteering! Thank you so much in advance.

• Announcements for tryouts and evaluations will be sent over email to all registered players and will be posted on our website and on Facebook. We are planning these tryouts to begin in mid-October with all CTBBC travel teams finalized before October 19th. Regular Evaluations will take place after these tryouts.
