Spring Player Evaluations

Player evaluations are a vital part of the spring season at Culpeper Little League. These evaluations are not tryouts — every player who registers will be placed on a team. The purpose is to create balanced teams and ensure all players are placed in the appropriate division for their age and skill level.

We do NOT hold evaluations for fall.

If your child does not attend evaluations, the Board will be in charge of rostering your player(s) via blind draw in order to ensure a competitive balance. This means that your player can not be drafted; instead, they will be randomly placed on a team.

Who Needs to Attend Evaluations?

  • All baseball and softball players league age 7 and older.
    • Beginner Softball and Tball, do not have evaluations.
  • Players moving up to a new division
  • Players wishing to be considered for the draft

Tee Ball and Beginner Softball players do not attend evaluations.

What to Bring:

  • Baseball/Softball glove
  • Helmet and bat (if you have them)
  • Water bottle
  • Cleats or athletic shoes

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in and warm up.

What to Expect:

  • Catching pop flies
  • Throwing for accuracy and strength
  • Hitting off a coach or machine pitch
  • Base running

Evaluations vary for length of time and depend on group size.

Why We Evaluate

The evaluation process allows us to:

  • Build fair, balanced teams across each division
  • Help coaches draft players in upper divisions (Minors, Majors, etc.)
  • Support player safety by ensuring appropriate division placement
