Culpeper Little League – FAQ
A combined FAQ for Parents and Coaches. If you don’t see your question here, please use the Contact page or reach out to your Division VP.
Parents
How do I register my child?
Register online through our SportsConnect registration link. Make sure you complete all required fields and submit payment (if applicable) to finalize the registration.
What documents are needed to play?
Typically you’ll need proof of age and residency (per Little League rules) and any additional forms requested during registration.
If you’re missing a document due to a move or special circumstance, contact the league and we’ll help you understand acceptable alternatives.
When will we hear from the coach?
Coaches generally reach out after teams are formed and rosters are finalized. If you haven’t heard anything close to the start of practices, please check your spam folder and then contact your Division VP.
How are teams formed?
Team formation depends on the division. Some divisions are drafted and others are assigned. Our goal is balanced teams while following Little League rules and league guidelines.
What gear does my player need?
At a minimum: glove, cleats, and a water bottle. A bat and helmet are optional (the team has shared equipment), but many families prefer their own.
Your coach will share division-specific recommendations.
What is the practice and game schedule?
Schedules vary by division and field availability. Game schedules are posted on SportsConnect and practices are communicated by the coach.
Can I request a specific coach or teammate?
You may submit a request during registration. We do our best to honor requests when possible, but cannot guarantee them due to roster balancing and capacity.
How do I volunteer?
Volunteers power the league. Concessions, team support, field prep, and events all need help.
Watch for volunteer sign-up links on the website and social media, or contact your coach/Division VP to get plugged in.
Coaches
What do I need to do before the season starts?
Common preseason items include: completing required background checks, safety training, and any league-required certifications.
Also: introduce yourself to families, confirm practice times, and review your division rules.
Where do I find my roster and team contact info?
Rosters and contact details are typically available through SportsConnect once teams are finalized and coach access is granted.
How do practices get scheduled?
Practice times depend on division, field availability, and league scheduling. Coaches should use assigned slots and coordinate conflicts early with the Schedule Manager/Division VP.
What equipment is provided by the league?
Teams typically receive shared gear (balls, catcher’s equipment where applicable, etc.). The Equipment Manager will coordinate distribution and return instructions.
How do I handle playing time?
We follow Little League rules and division guidelines for participation. The focus is development, safety, and sportsmanship.
If you have a playing-time concern, contact your Division VP.
What’s the expectation for parent communication?
Set a consistent cadence (weekly message works great): schedule, location, what to bring, and any changes.
Keep communication respectful and focused on the kids.
How do I report an incident or injury?
Notify the Safety Officer as soon as possible and follow league procedures for incident reporting.
For urgent concerns, address immediate safety first and then report.
Safety
What are the key safety rules parents should know?
No on-deck hitting outside of designated areas, helmets on when batting/running bases, and follow coach/umpire directions.
Keep siblings off the field and away from dugout entrances unless authorized.
Can we use sunflower seeds or gum?
Some divisions/fields restrict items due to choking hazards and cleanup. Please follow your coach’s guidance and posted field rules.
What happens if a player is hurt?
Coaches will stop play as needed, assess the situation, and contact a parent/guardian.
Incidents should be reported per league procedure so we can support the player and improve safety.
Weather & Cancellations
How will we know if games/practices are canceled?
Cancellations are communicated through SportsConnect updates and/or team communications from the coach.
Please don’t rely on “it’s not raining at my house” — field conditions and safety determine decisions.
What about lightning?
For safety, activities stop and everyone should move to safe shelter when lightning is present. This is normally in your vehicle in the parking lot. Return-to-play occurs when the lightning is heading out and is at the discretion of the Board Member on Duty.
All-Stars
How are All-Star teams selected?
Selection criteria and process vary by division and are based on league guidelines, player availability, and the All-Star timeline.
More details will be shared as the season progresses.
What is the All-Star commitment?
All-Stars typically require additional practices and games after the regular season, often with travel.
Families should consider schedule availability before accepting a roster spot.
