Major Softball
League Age 11-12
League Age 10 may play pending skills evaluation and 3 years of softball experience.
Majors Softball continues development of skills, pitching, and strategy. This division incorporates and encourages a higher skill level to allow more competitive level of play. A 12-inch “hard” softball is used. All players will go through a required evaluation process. All players will be placed on a team. Younger players may be moved down a division, if Coach and Player Agent feels they are not ready for this division.
• TEAMS: Majors teams are made up of 12-14 players. Teams are created after registrations have closed and will require a skills assessment.
• EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORM: Team uniform of visor/hat, jersey, and pants are provided by SLL. Each team is issued catcher's gear, bats and helmets. Players may use their own Little League approved softball glove and if they chose a Little League approved softball bat. Glove and cleats are required for all players. Personal fielding mask is highly recommended for infield play.
• PRACTICES: Starting as soon as the snow thaws, end of April beginning of May. Coaches preference on how often to practice. Can be included during game nights. Teams will usually have 2-3 practices per week until the season begins. Practices typically last 60-90 minutes.
• GAMES: 3 games each week. Travel between Kenai during the week and then some weekends in the Anchorage area. Games are played Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday starting at 6:30pm on weekdays and double headers Saturdays, are 11a and 1pm. Games are about 3 hours including warm-ups. Major teams play approximately 15 to 19 games per season.
• VOLUNTEERS: Parent participation is necessary on many levels from Coaching, Umpiring, Field Preparation, Score Keeping, Team Parent, etc.
• MANAGER and COACH: Two coaches and one manager may request to be paired together prior to team formation. While attempts are made to honor requests, they are not guaranteed.
"Only those participants whose residence or the physical location of the school where they attend classes is within the boundaries of the league shall be eligible to participate."
Note: You will only be able to register your player/s for the program they are age-eligible for. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Player Agent. SLL reserves the right to move players from one level to another for safety reasons as well as to accommodate the most players depending on interest at each level. This is done at the Coach and Player Agents discretion.
