WHAT IS CHALLENGER BASEBALL?
Soldotna Little League's Challenger Division provides an opportunity for any child over four years old and up to eighteen years of age (players age as of January 1, 2024) with a physical or cognitive disability to join a baseball team, get some exercise, and learn some baseball skills with other kids in an informal, supportive environment. SLL will be fielding a team for both boys and girls. We invite your child or children you know to join our program!
Kids learn the basics of baseball, and how to play as part of a team. However, games are non-competitive, with full participation by all. Every player takes a turn at bat every inning, and always gets on base and gets to advance around the bases. There are no outs, no one keeps score, and everyone has a great time for one or so hours, once a week late Saturday afternoons.
Parents and coaches and occasionally players from Little League’s other programs provide support and as much (or little) assistance as each player wants or needs to participate to the best of their ability and enjoy the game. Soldotna Little League provides each player a uniform similar to those of other Little League teams. Most importantly—everyone has a great time!
Here's what else you need to know:
Little League’s Challenger Division was founded in 1989 and includes over 22,000 players nationally.
The fee for Challenger Division registration is FREE for the 2024 Spring Season.
To help us plan for the Spring, we ask parents and caregivers to please register as early as possible, preferably before May 4, 2024. Please note that early registration will also ensure that your child is able to participate in case available spaces on teams fill up this year!
If you know additional families who may be interested in Challenger baseball in the Spring, please send us their names or have them contact us. You can also refer them to this page on the SLL website.
If you know of anyone who wants to volunteer, refer them to the volunteer information to the right.
